Sea Vitamins - The Missing Vegetable

By Andrew Lee

Sea Vitamins are probably the healthiest vitamins that humans can consume. Sea vitamins are derived from sea vegetables which happens to be more commonly termed seaweed. Seaweed is actually a microscopic organism which may be found thriving in various bodies of water such as oceans, lakes and rivers. Sea vegetables are usually found growing on coral reefs or rocky areas in the water. Seaweed can actually grow at incredible depths so long as the sun's rays can make it to the seaweed. Like plants, sea vegetables use photosynthesis and thus need light for survival.

Really seaweed is neither a plant or animal but is truly categorized as an algae. Algae doesn't have roots, flowers, leaves or stems. Several sea vegetables appear to have roots, but what seems to be the root of the seaweed is in fact something named the holdfast. The holdfast is what the seaweed utilizes to attach to rocks as well as other items in the sea. The holdfast isn't viewed as a root, since the holdfast does not actually contribute to the nutrition and growth and development of the sea vegetables.

You can find about 10,000 varieties of seaweed which are classified into different categories by color which include red, green and brown. Every sea vegetable has unique and distinct forms, tastes and textures. A few seaweeds such as phytoplankton are microscopic, and other types of seaweeds such as kelp tend to be colossal and develop into great "forests" under the water. Many sea vegetables appear as long strands and branches while others are more in the shape of sheets. Sea vegetables can grow in substantial quantities in several spots all around the earth.

Not all, but a extremely wide range of sea vegetables are typically ingested as food. Archeological evidence suggests that Japanese civilizations have been ingesting sea vegetables or sea vitamins for longer than 10,000 years. Many Asiatic cities think seaweed to be a delicacy and these individuals routinely consume the sea vegetables. In fact many people from several civilizations and countries all over the world have made great efforts to obtain sea vitamins. These nations include but are not limited to Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and coastal South American countries.
